Medical insurance for foreigners in Bulgaria

Who is it intended for?
THIS INSURANCE IS MANDATORY for foreign citizens who temporarily or continually reside in the Republic of Bulgaria, or transit through the country and do not have health insurance concluded abroad or medical insurance, valid within the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria. The insurance is only valid within the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria. In case an insurance event occurs, the insured parties avail of services provided by doctors, medical centers and hospitals at all sea and mountain resorts, as well as in all large cities anywhere in the country, for free.

What does it cover?
THE INSURANCE COVERS the following risks:Medical expenses due to an accident and/or an acute illness: expenses for non-hospital treatment and hospitalization;Expenses for repatriation due to an accident and/or acute illness;Expenses for urgent dental aid;Expenses for the transportation of human remains in case of death due to an accident.

What is the insurance period?
THE MANDATORY MEDICAL INSURANCE for foreigners residing shortly in the Republic of Bulgaria or transiting through the country may not be concluded for a period longer than 90 (ninety) days. The mandatory medical insurance for foreigners continually residing in the Republic of Bulgaria may not be concluded for a period longer than 1 (one) year.
