What does it consist of?
A “GREEN CARD” IS AN INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATE for Motor third-party liability insurance.
When is it required?
A “GREEN CARD” CERTIFICATE IS REQUIRED when a vehicle crosses the territory of countries outside the European Economic Area which are not parties of a multilateral guarantee agreement between the national bureaus, namely: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belarus, Republic of Macedonia, Israel, Iran, Montenegro, Morocco, Russia, Moldova, Tunis, Turkey and Ukraine. In such cases the “Green card” certificate is issued by the insurer against payment for an additional premium. In case of an inspection by the relevant country’s traffic police, it is necessary to provide evidence of a Motor third-party liability insurance concluded by the drivers. The “Green card” certificate is considered as such evidence. The “Green card” is an internationally recognized model and is familiar in all European countries.
How does it work in the EU countries?
WHEN A VEHICLE REGISTERED IN BULGARIA TRAVELS in the EU countries, a Motor third-party liability insurance is sufficient. A “Green card” is not required. The only perquisite for freedom of movement is a vehicle registration number as per a model, valid for all countries-members of the EU.
What does it cover?
“GREEN CARD” COVERS THE LIABILITY OF THE OPERATOR of the vehicle in a foreign country, in case of culpable financial or non-financial damages inflicted on a third party. The policy coverage of the insured party’s liability is determined in accordance with the law of the country on which territory the damages are inflicted. The coverage can be provided to the drivers when the compulsory Motor third-party liability insurance is concluded or during the time of its validity. In the second case the coverage for third countries is provided with an appendix to the insurance.
